Some fun video promo I’ve either created or participated in
“What If I told You?” is a visual letter. It’s a piece that incorporates themes and scenes from my latest novel, THIS GREAT HEMISPHERE, and interrogates what life would be like––for me, for the novel’s main characters, for you, for all of us––if we were to let go of the limitations, doubts, and fears that we’ve internalized day after day, month after month, and year after year.
So there’s a rumor going around about my new book…I’ve responded here.
Despite the various SMEAR campaigns, I hope you order THIS GREAT HEMISPHERE, available everywhere books are sold.
A freestyle video I wrote and performed focused on my debut novel, Black Buck. It actually features the main spots in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn where the novel takes place.
The fine folks at the TODAY show invited me on TV to share some amazing book recs.
A recap of sorts, of the year I published my debut novel, Black Buck. It chronicles media highlights, a bit of the journey of making the book, and other moments I’m grateful for.
A truly incredible moment for me. To be in the land of my mother, Jamaica, on TV, discussing literature and my roots.
With the release of the French version of my novel, I wanted to do something special. So I wrote, performed, and directed a short commercial for our French-speaking audience.
This was a really fun one, and the first commercial I’ve ever done. It also took a ton of work. Grubhub and Vox were looking for a “real” person to feature in this NY-focused commercial, and I got the job. This is only a fifteen-second clip, but the full commercial is over a minute and quite cool.
Hopped on the TODAY show again, but this time to surprise the inspiring owners of Hidden Gems Literary Emporium, in New Jersey, with a special gift.
A spoken word piece centered on a boy I used to know. This story––of being different and feeling alienated, for one reason or another––is one many of us lived as young people and, at times, continue to live as adults. Yet we press on.
Spoken word, general promo, call it want you want. “Don’t Get Boxed” is a reminder that we are more than how others perceive and define us––that any limitations people attempt to place on us are only a byproduct of their lack of imagination, and that’s okay.
